Among the Austrian bands that we have heard from time to time, there are also the 3 bands that we will present to you!

THE ZSA ZSA GABORS ( Punk Rock )

Founded 2013 in the Austrian city of St. Pölten, THE ZSA ZSA GABORS climb up the punk rock
sky step by step. The band is indeed committed to the classic punk rock and work to
implement this in a modern style. In the studio they focused on subtleties, such as piano and
organ recordings, respected to achieve the best possible result and sound of the songs!
Melodious, catchy, intense and angry!

ABOUT THE NEW ALBUM OF THE BAND

GLOSS, release: summer 2022 is 5th studio album by the St. Pölten punk band THE ZSA ZSA GABORS
Difficult times are behind us. After the release of our 4th album “X” in 2020, an extended
release tour through half of Europe was fixed.
Shortly after the first shows all had to be cancelled. No concerts, no rehearsals, no meeting with friends. Uncertainty.
We spent a lot of time at home with our families, which didn’t always go very harmoniously, even with a lot of effort.
The 5th album GLOSS by the St. Pölten punk band THE ZSA ZSA GABORS deals with exactly these emotional states. From hopelessness to euphoria.
Any band rehearsal was a conversation platform, an exchange, a boon. Even though we had to experience many restrictions, our friendship endured and we face the future together.
Viva la ZSA ZSA GABORS!
The album GLOSS was again recorded at Graveyard Studio Amstetten in 2020 and 2021.
For the song “Old Punx” the band received vocal support from Elisa and Enrico from the Italian
band LOS FASTIDIOS.

DEMENZIA KOLEKTIVA ( Cannot be pigeonholed into any genre)

DEMENZIA KOLEKTIVA was founded in Vienna in November 2009. At the end of 2010 a split 7″ EP with DISPARO (HC-Punk from Valencia,Spain) was released on TRABUC RECORDS. In 2011 there was asampler participation on the ILLEGAL BY CHOICE 7″ EP on DE:NIHILRECORDS.
The debut LP TWISTED CHORDS follows in August 2014: 12 punk rocksongs with melodies, catchy and full of emotions. DEMENZIA KOLEKTIVA cannot be pigeonholed into any genre.
Somewhere between classic punk rock, some early anarcho-punk and ’77 sound.
At the same time, Demenzia Kolektiva are extremely unique, versatile and varied thanks to Carolina’s singing and the Spanish and English lyrics.
Fast, passionate punk rock with power, melodies, anger and melancholy, snotty and yet clear and straight enough for catchy
2-minute songs.

SUX SUX SUX ( Surfin’ GaragePunk )

Imagine, you are invited to spend a day at the beach togetherwith The Mummies and Black Lips?
Sounds trippy and sick to you? Well, then you are right. Put on your best shorts and bring your salami-recorder because Sux Sux Sux are going to blast you.

These records spinning weirdos with budget rock attitude and love for shitty guitars do it right!
Formally known as Salami Sux, they have been around for while and come from the gutters of Vienna
and STP. SUX³ = Sux Sux Sux … well math’s is complicated … but don’t worry, their garage surf punk sound isn’t!

The former band SALAMI SUX released 2021 two LPs called “Salami Sux” and “Salami Sux ´n’ Roll Vol.1” via TOPSY-TURVY RECORDS GERMANY (a division of SOUNDFLAT RECORDS -www.soundflatrecords.de). 2024 will come the first SUX SUX SUX release as a 10“ LP.

Mots T. Sux ( Matthias Nimpfer ):Hi Thodoris! Very nice to hear you again! Warm greetings from Austria!

Athenscalling.gr: Look … I like very much many bands from Austria, but I wonder about …
Why have Austrian bands not become known in all of Europe music scene?

Mots T. Sux ( Matthias Nimpfer ):The Rock scene is not so big in Austria.
Austrian bands have few opportunities to perform, especially in their own country.
They always have to first become known abroad in order to gain more attention in Austria.
But there are some really cool Underground bands like DeeCracks, The Incredible Staggers, Batman and The Mighty Antiheroes and many more.

Athenscalling.gr: You are a member in all of the 3 bands, I mean THE ZSA ZSA GABORS – DEMENZIA KOLEKTIVA- SUX SUX SUX, please describe the 3 bands genres and which of all 3 music genres do you love the most?

Mots T. Sux ( Matthias Nimpfer ):The Zsa Zsa Gabors started as a local rehersal room project. We wanted to play a few simple songs in the spirit of original punk rock and have a good time together. More songs were quickly written and we kept going into the studio. So we currently have 5 albums and a single. It’s always a lot of fun with the boys. Everything was uncomplicated with a lot of party.

Demenzia Kolektiva started when our former band “Skeptic Eleptic” was dissolved. Drummer Thomsn met Carolina, who plays in the hardcore band Ruidosa Inmundicia. She wanted to start a band that was more punk. So at the beginning we mixed ’77 punk with hardcore and this with Spanish lyrics. Over time our style developed more towards postpunk.

Sux Sux Sux – former named as “Salami Sux” makes some straight-forward Garagepunk with Surfwipe. During the Corona period, the band developed from a pure recording fun story into a real band. We have already released 2 albums and are about to release our next release in fall 2024.

Of course I like all genres of my bands. Basically it’s all simple, straight forward punk rock with a lot of energy. I love Punkrock in all facets.

Athenscalling.gr: How easy or maybe difficult is it… to play in three bands with different musical genres?

Mots T. Sux ( Matthias Nimpfer ):The hardest part is finding time to rehearse.
We rehearse almost every week with Zsa Zsa Gabors. This is definitely on the calendar.
With the other two bands we actually only rehearse before shows or before we go into the studio.
I always rehearse the songs myself at home before a show. This helps me be safer.
Otherwise it’s not a big problem.

Athenscalling.gr: And about the future plans for – THE ZSA ZSA GABORS – DEMENZIA KOLEKTIVA- and SUX SUX SUX?

Mots T. Sux ( Matthias Nimpfer ): The Zsa Zsa Gabors will be heading back into the studio soon. We’ve probably recorded 30 demos by now. The hardest part will be finding a choice here. Of course we would like to play a lot live, but only what can be agreed with our families.

We would also like to record a few new songs with Demenzia Kolektiva soon. Unfortunately, time is always a problem here. Carolina and Thomsn have small children. So we rarely get to rehearse. We’ll be playing a Serbian DIY festival in the summer and playing a show in Budapest. I’m really looking forward to it.

With Sux Sux Sux we will soon release a 10″ on the German label Topsy Turvy Records. We are playing live at the French Marvelous Festival and the Austrian Saufzipf Festival. Some other concerts are planned. It’s a lot of fun to play live.

Athenscalling.gr: Before the end of the interview , please tell us, what is your biggest dream,as a great talented musician?

Mots T. Sux ( Matthias Nimpfer ):My biggest dream is just continue to have fun like I always do. Playing live has never been as easy as it is now. All band members know why we do this.
It’s not about making money, it’s just about having fun.
But there are still dreams. I would like to play live in countries like England, Poland and Greece. Certain festivals like the “Back to Future Festival” and “Mighty Sounds Festival” would also really rattle me.
But it comes as it comes. It’s all cool the way it is.
