A day in early January 2022, we had made a request for an interview with the legendary drummer of rock music… Mr. KENNEY THOMAS JONES, founding member of the Small Faces and drummer with the Faces, the Who, the Law, the Jones Gang and a member of the Rock ‘N’ Roll Hall of Fame.

This was A Great Moment for us, because… KENNEY THOMAS JONES is The Living Legend of Rock Music! An Amazing English drummer, best known for his work in the groups… SMALL FACES, FACES, THE WHO, THE LAW and with THE JONES GANG.
Very important for KENNEY, was his appearances as a guest drummer on many recording sessions, including appearances on albums by Rod Stewart, Keith Moon, The Rolling Stones, Ronnie Wood, Roger Daltrey, Pete Townshend, Marsha Hunt, Joan Armatrading, Andy Fairweather-Low,Mike Batt, , Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, David Essex, John Lodge and Wings. He was also on a Top of the Pops performance with Status Quo, performing their 1986 hit single, “Red Sky”.

KENNEY THOMAS JONES: It’s great to chat with you!
Athenscalling.gr: At first I want ask you something… It is known to everyone and that it is a truth about you, that You are the beat behind three of the world’s most enduring and significant bands, the Small Faces, the Faces and the Who… and also you are along with Keith Moon, John Bonham, Ginger Baker and Charlie Watts, one of the greatest drummers of all time. How do you feel about it Kenney?
KENNEY THOMAS JONES: Privileged. I feel honoured that people think so highly of me and to be in such great company. They’re not only the best but they’re my mates too.
Athenscalling.gr: Thank you Kenney! Can ask you now… where you are and how pass all these Pandemic COVID-19 crazy days?
KENNEY THOMAS JONES: I’m living in Surrey, UK with my family. When I’m not drumming I help out at the polo club. I really enjoy driving the tractor and cutting the fields. It’s one of my hobbies. I’m very hands on.

KENNEY THOMAS JONES: Yes
Athenscalling.gr: O.k. I wish you all the best in your health! Let’s talk now about the music… We are very happy, here in Greece, when we heard the news about the Faces reunion. It was great news… Please tell us about it.
KENNEY THOMAS JONES: Because it was our 50th anniversary nearly 3 years ago we were hoping to tour but the pandemic delayed those plans but it is our intention to bring something to you. We are working on our back catalogue and hope to do a tour when it’s safe to do so.

KENNEY THOMAS JONES: Blessed, Humble and drunk. Ha ha.
Athenscalling.gr: You are one of the living legends of rock music, member with great groups, the Small Faces, the Faces, the Who, the Law, the Jones Gang, tell us who are your best moment… with the Small Faces, the Faces, the Who, the Law and the Jones Gang ?
KENNEY THOMAS JONES: Small Faces – Making Ogdens Nutgone Flake.
The Faces – Every day was a party. Fun and exciting.
TheWho – Live Aid.
The Law – Working with Paul Rodgers. I was privileged to work with such a fantastic singer.
The Jones Gang – When we had a number 1 hit in America with the song Angel.
Athenscalling.gr: … And if you want it, your worst moment?
KENNEY THOMAS JONES: 11 people died in Cincinnati at a Who concert. It was such a tragedy.
Athenscalling.gr: Let’s talk now about you’re passions! Outside of music, I think that polo is the best passion for you! Tell us about it and about Hurt Wood Park Polo Club.
KENNEY THOMAS JONES: I enjoyed creating it and all the wonderful events we’ve had over the years. I loved playing polo with Prince Charles and my whole family enjoys it. We’ve had some wonderful times.
Athenscalling.gr: O.k. about polo and about football team? Who is your love about football club in U.K?
KENNEY THOMAS JONES: When I realized I was approaching my 70th Birthday I felt I was finally old enough to put pen to paper.
Athenscalling.gr: Let’s travel to the past now, with a double question… and let me ask you, do you remember your first teacher in music and your first album that you bought?
KENNEY THOMAS JONES: I’ve never had a music lesson. I’m self taught. The first album I ever brought was The Shadows.
Athenscalling.gr: Today what kind of music do you like to listen and what are your 5 favorite bands, during of all the years?
KENNEY THOMAS JONES: I listen to all kinds of music these days. My 5 favourite bands/artists are Booker T and the MG’s, Nat King Cole, Otis Reading, The Beatles and The Shadows.
Athenscalling.gr: I want to talk you now about your band … The Jones Gang, any news about the future?
KENNEY THOMAS JONES: We’re touring in the UK in May 2022 and have some other gigs coming up over the year too.
Athenscalling.gr: Something now before the end of our chatting… Do you know something about my country, about Greece?
KENNEY THOMAS JONES: Yes, it’s slippery. Ha ha. I love the Greek Islands. I’ve been to Greece before and visited the Acropolis. I enjoyed my visit there very much.
Athenscalling.gr: Kenney I think that I don’t have something other to ask you. So do you have something other to tell us, anything you want … perhaps a message for the people?
KENNEY THOMAS JONES: Yes I would like to say to my fans. Thank you for your loyalty and support.
